Summary The Construction and Maintenance Supervisor position is located at the VA Western Colorado Health Care System (WCHCS), Department of Veterans Affairs in Grand Junction, CO. This position serves as the Shops Supervisor, covering the following shops: Maintenance Mechanic, Pipefitting, Air Condition Equipment Mechanic, Electrician, Gardener and Electronic Technician. Responsibilities Plans, coordinates, tests, adjusts, balances, and directs all work performed by the following shops: Maintenance Mechanic, Pipefitting, Air Condition Equipment Mechanic, Electrician, Gardener and Electronic Technician; Assigns, closes-out, manipulates, and transfers data from the work order/PM/equipment inventory systems; Accounts for administrative matters such as attendance, leave, and discipline for subordinate positions; Establishes deadlines of work assignments for all personnel, training, motivating and directing subordinates in testing, adjusting balancing, repair, modification, installation and troubleshooting; Plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies by higher-level supervisors; Makes work assignments to provide first response to trouble calls and/or service calls in a hospital setting; Works as the primary responder in radio and telephone contact with other facility personnel such as police, administrators, utility system operators and the engineering work order clerks; Manages all aspects under their purview regardless of how the work is performed or who performs the work; Recommends economically sound information concerning equipment systems or facilities maintenance, modernization, or replacement planning; Ensures that all The Joint Commission, NFPA, OSHA, EPA, and VA standards, directives, and other applicable guidelines are followed; Conducts inspections to assure quality control of work performed by staff; Conducts surveys and recommends major repairs or replacement needed on equipment, building and site infrastructure; Assigns work, creates work schedules, sets cost limitations, furnishes detailed supervision and instructions, observes progression of work (inclusive of adherence to completion and cost schedules), and coordinates activities with other projects currently underway; Acts as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) over numerous major high-cost contracts assigned. Working Conditions Maintenance Mechanic, Pipefitting, Air Condition Equipment Mechanic, Electrician, Gardener and Electronic Technician Shops Supervisor must be capable of supervising and performing work that is performed outside in inclement weather or in areas that are very hot, cold or unventilated, such as catwalks, crawlspaces and mechanical rooms. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, electrical shock, and other hazards normally encountered in facility maintenance, repairs, and operation. Safety procedures must be followed, and appropriate protective safety gear and personal protective equipment must be worn, as required for the specific work area or task. Incumbent shall ensure all employees wear personal protective equipment as required by the situation. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.
