Job Description:
GDIT is seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Native Engineer to work in a dynamic agile team environment. The Senior Cloud Native Engineer will be part of a technically diverse team supporting Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) via the Integrated Data Repository (IDR) contract. The Integrated Data Repository (IDR) is a high-volume data warehouse integrating Parts A, B, C, D, and DME claims, beneficiary and provider data sources, along with ancillary data such as contract information, risk scores, and many others. Access to this robust integrated data supports a variety of strategic analytics across CMS.
The successful candidate will support and maintain multiple systems, including a production-grade deployment of the Synthea. This role will be pivotal in managing API integrations, improving system reliability, generating test data, and optimizing deployment workflows in a cloud-native AWS environment.
You'll work closely with DevSecOps, Data Engineering, and Product teams to ensure high availability, security, and performance of our APIs across multiple environments.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Maintain and enhance RESTful and event-driven APIs across development, staging, and production environments.
Support and manage the Synthea synthetic health data application and associated APIs.
Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for deploying and testing APIs.
Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues across API infrastructure.
Implement and maintain secure authentication and authorization mechanisms (e.g., OAuth2, JWT).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement API standards and best practices.
Document API workflows, configurations, and system architectures.
Support versioning and backward compatibility across evolving API endpoints.
Maintain infrastructure-as-code using tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.
Optimize API performance and scalability in cloud environments.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience as described below, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years of experience in backend/API development.
Proficiency in one or more of the following backend languages: Python, Java, Golang.
Strong experience with RESTful API design, implementation, and maintenance.
Demonstrated experience working with AWS services, including: API Gateway, Lambda, EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, S3, CloudWatch
Experience with Synthea or synthetic data generators.
Experience with Docker and container orchestration.
Solid understanding of authentication standards (OAuth2, OpenID Connect).
Strong familiarity with monitoring/logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus), Alarming (Alert Manager, CloudWatch Alarms) and dashboarding (QuickSight, Grafana, etc.).
Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or CodePipeline .
Proficient in working with JSON , OpenAPI/Swagger , and version control (Git).
Familiarity with tools for performance testing (jMeter, locust, k6, etc.)
Familiarity with Application Testing Frameworks (jUnit, Selenium, PyTest, etc.)
Familiarity with Application Security Tools DAST (ZAP, Burp Suite, Invicti???, etc. ) or SAST (Snyk, Dependabot, SonarQube, etc.)
Familiarity with Cloud Security/Compliance Tools (AWS SecurityHub, Wiz, AWS GuardDuty, AWS WAF, )
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

The likely salary range for this position is $96,050 - $129,950. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
