Job Description
The Medical Assistant provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.
Qualifications
High School Diploma and appropriate course work at an accredited college or technical school.
Three to six months related experience.
Current Medical Assistant certification or equivalent
BCLS certification - Required Issuing Authority: AHA or Red Cross
Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSBI
Responsibilities
A. Clinical/Technical/Service
Admits patient to exam room for examination
Takes vital signs, medical history and medication history including allergies
Prepares patient charts for physician
Ensures information is correct and up to date
Coordinates outside testing for patients, assures results are returned
Performs diagnostic testing as ordered by physician
Verifies diagnosis and procedure codes with physicians
Administer injections as directed by physician
Documents all patient interactions in the patients' file
Maintains patient confidentiality
Maintains exam rooms and medical areas
Notifies patients of test results as directed by physician
Operates medical equipment as required
Takes blood and other bodily fluids as required
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area
B. Organizational/Managerial
Participates in the departments performance improvement activities
Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information
Observes the Health Care Systems compliance policies
Adheres to lab procedures required by CLIA regulations
Adheres to OSHA regulations
Assists in the training of new employees
Represents the hospital to patients, vendors, contractors and public
C. Educational/Professional Development
Participates in the development of other staff members
Meets regulatory, licensure and annual health assessment requirements
Identifies learning strengths and needs
Utilizes learning resources
Attends sponsored training activities
D. Communication/Relationships
Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, families and significant others
Displays courtesy, tact and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community
Adheres to Continuums legal and ethical standards
May be required to perform other duties as assigned

Compensation Statement
Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $24.9407 - $27.1 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
