Are you passionate about creating exceptional guest experiences and leading dynamic teams? The Iowa State Athletics Department is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Event Staffing Specialist to join our team!
In this entry level position, you will be responsible for hiring, scheduling, training, and supervising a large group of guest services employees who support a broad range of sporting and auxiliary events throughout the year. With a strong emphasis on customer service, you will play a key role in ensuring events runs smoothly and leave a lasting positive impression on our guests. This position will also assist event planners by serving as manager on duty at assigned events, will serve as a department timekeeper and student employment expert, and will provide administrative support for event operations. What you'll do
Coordinate employment efforts for event guest services staff to include sourcing, interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, payroll, and performance coaching of in-house staff
Serve as liaison with outsourced staffing agencies to ensure adequate event coverage
Supervise guest services staff and third-party vendors during assigned live events
Maintain and train others on the scheduling system and coordinate all event staff assignments/schedules
Assist with effectively addressing event staff performance issues and coaching to improvement
Assist in serving as a venue liaison to ensure effective communications and smooth ancillary operations (parking, security, catering, merchandising, ticketing, guest services, sponsorship coordination, media, officials, visiting teams, etc.)
Serve as a subject matter expert on Workday timekeeping and hourly staffing and help ensure compliance with payroll
Run weekly reports to determine timekeeping and hourly personnel items needing action, initiate research and outreach, handle necessary transactions
Commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of the University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA
The ideal candidates will have excellent customer service skills, high attention to detail, be process oriented, and have strong database skills. Must be able to exercise sound judgment and discretion. Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple staffing schedules, be a problem solver, possess effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, and be highly organized. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse clientele.
This job requires the ability to work regularly at assigned evening and/or weekend events; ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds; and ability to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
