The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHH-FL) is one of two state hospitals serving our community. The vision of CMHH-FL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons with complex, serious, and persistent mental illness within the resources available. Our mission is to support those individuals in achieving their recovery goals and reaching their full potential. CMHH-FL provides inpatient treatment to adult patients, generally between the ages of 18-59. The hospital currently has 138 adult inpatient beds and over six treatment milieus that serve civil and forensic individuals. Medical services, occupational therapy, neuropsychological-rehabilitation services, and trauma-informed care services are available for all patients throughout the hospital.

The Chief Medical Officer / Medical Staff Office coordinates providing various psychiatric and medical services to the patients at CMHHIFL. The work unit provides administrative, clinical, strategic, and operational leadership to ensure high-quality care is delivered throughout the hospital. In addition, the work unit is responsible for overseeing all medical staff, administrative, and fiscal matters, ensuring hospital staffing of psychiatric and medical physicians and providers, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Description of Job
The position ensures physicians and other licensed medical providers have the appropriate license, credentials, and privileges to practice in the hospital. It ensures compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws and that the delineation of privileges and ongoing review and evaluation of clinicians' performance occur promptly and effectively. It interprets and implements the Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations of the medical staff by collecting, organizing, and interpreting data.
This position makes recommendations and provides professional assistance to the Chief of Medical Staff in managing the organized medical staff. It is accountable for the management of the overall activities of the medical staff, including activities designed to ensure the provision of high-level professional performance by physicians and other medical staff members and to ensure CMHHIFL compliance with stringent external standards such as the Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services by collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data, and comprehending committee goals, policies, procedures, rules and regulations, etc. to conceptualize the complexity of issues and interpret circumstances in a variety of situations.
The Medical Staff Coordinator independently manages the full credentialing and re-credentialing process for all medical staff at CMHH-FL, including verifying professional qualifications, tracking expirations, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements (Joint Commission, CMS, etc.). This role is responsible for knowing and applying standards and sound professional credentialing practices. It involves making recommendations to the Credentials Committee and collaborating with medical staff leadership to interpret and update Medical Staff Bylaws. The coordinator also coordinates peer review and develops, tracks, and reports Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) data and indicators.
Additionally, the coordinator provides comprehensive administrative and strategic support to the Medical Staff and Medical Executive Committee, which includes assisting with policy development, organizing and coordinating meetings, taking minutes, preparing meeting materials, tracking subcommittee reports, and ensuring compliance with relevant rules and regulations. The coordinator develops in-depth familiarity of hospital policies and procedures and advises medical staff members accordingly. Orients medical staff, students and personnel to hospital bylaws, policies, procedures, and practices. The position also oversees medical student rotations by coordinating with medical schools, identifying preceptors, and ensuring necessary background checks are completed. The position supports physician scheduling and invoicing in conjunction with other office staff. Finally, the coordinator manages internal and external projects, purchasing materials, completes timekeeping, and provides general program administrative support.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Experience Only:
Five (5) years of relevant experience in credentialing, providing high level assistance to management, or closely related experience.
Education and Experience:
A combination of education in Medical Staff Services Management, Health Services Management, Health Administration, Human Resources or closely related field and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to five (5) years
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification (CPCS or CPMSM)
3 - 5 years of comprehensive experience as a medical staff services professional within a hospital setting
Working knowledge of Medical Staff credentialing, basic Medical Staff organizational structure, and regulatory agency requirements.
Superior organization, customer service, and interpersonal skills
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability and flexibility to learn new systems, processes, and policies/regulations/protocols
Confidentiality, discretion, and adherence to HIPAA regulations
Knowledge of quality improvement processes
Exceptional PC skills, including Google Suite
Knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
