Summary The incumbent of this position is a Motor Vehicle Operator assigned to the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, Transportation Section of Engineering Service. Incumbent must possess a State Operator's Permit, Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Medical Certificate endorsement. Responsibilities Primary duties include, but not limited to: Operate and perform operator maintenance on truck tractor, with semi-trailers that have approximate gross vehicle weight of 26,000.1 pounds or more. Compile all necessary data to fill out all mileage reports, and fuel reports on a daily basis. Independently arranges for routine maintenance of vehicle and informs the supervisor of these repairs. Responsible for maintaining the vehicle in a clean, safe, operating condition, fluid capacities. Conducts pre-operation inspections, and maintenance requirements for servicing. Responsible for maintaining Class A vehicle in a clean, safe, operating condition. Determine the correct turning radius of the truck tractor/semi-trailer combination, Class A Vehicles. Able to back the trailer into loading docks, between other trailers, and in narrow, congested locations around warehouses and parking areas. Independently arranges for routine maintenance of vehicle and informs the supervisor of these repairs, or safety concerns. Operates the Class A vehicle on interstate highways, winding roads, and steep grades and manipulates the dual braking system to prevent the semi-trailer from jackknifing. Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be in good physical condition and have 20/20 vision with or without glasses. Incumbent will be required to lift moderate to heavy weight in loading and unloading laundry and supplies. Incumbent will be climbing on the tractors to hook up service lines, lower landing gears and climbing on the trailer to load or tie down cargo. Working Conditions: Work will be performed both inside and outside of the vehicle where the incumbent will be subject to long periods of time sitting and exposed to all @types of weather. Incumbent is subject to the injuries involved with loading and unloading vehicles. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
