Job Description:
Job Summary
The Manufacturing Technician plays a crucial role in the extrusion production process and reports directly to the Production Supervisor. They are responsible for ensuring the production equipment is set up correctly and according to product specifications. They use their problem-solving skills to address machine errors and their communication skills to document reports. The technician also supports leadership for a team of operators and manages rotations and downtime.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Responsible for setting up extrusion machinery, including all downstream equipment and tooling
Operate extrusion machinery daily, working with multiple materials and configurations, without direct supervision
Clean equipment and tools used in the extrusion process
Complete detailed documentation as it relates to machine set-up and quality system requirements, and ensure that all required paperwork is accurate and complete
Identify and correct problems; apply experience and knowledge in adjusting and training of others in areas of expertise; document changes; monitor and focus on scrap reduction
Identify and assist in resolving safety, health, or environmental issues associated with processes or equipment, and maintain compliance with good manufacturing processes
Fill in for operators when rotations for breaks are needed
Produce quality parts; inspecting and approving profiles to ensure they meet all manufacturing requirements
Inspect the quality of materials and alert Production Supervisor or appropriate personnel of material issues and/or failures immediately
Inspect the quality of machinery and report equipment failures to the Maintenance Department
Responsible for the updating of set-up sheets and documentation as required
Must have the knowledge to set up all lines within the manufacturing plant
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of plastic extrusion
Strong communication skills- written and verbal
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Ability to read a work order and use a tape measure within 1/16"
Preferred Skills and Experience
3+ years of prior plastic extrusion experience
Lean manufacturing experience
Caliper and micrometer experience
Physical Requirements
Standard plant work environment and involves lifting moderately heavy items (over 25lbs and up to 75lbs)
Ability to stand for a 10-hour shift, which may include: bending, twisting, climbing, walking, and lifting
