POSITION OVERVIEW
John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites social scientists in the interdisciplinary field of criminology and international criminal justice (ICJ) to apply for a tenure-track, joint appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology (home department) and the Bachelor of Arts Program in International Criminal Justice (ICJ BA) and the Master of Arts Program in International Crime and Justice (IC&J MA). The position begins in Fall 2026.
The College seeks to hire a promising scholar researching cybercrime. The college is especially interested in researchers working on topics of growing policy importance such as transnational crime and cybercriminology, including but not limited to: cybercrime; cyber organized crime; digital privacy and surveillance; digital justice; social media and crime; illicit goods and services traded on the darknet; cyberlaw; cyber-enabled fraud; cyberterrorism; technology-facilitated violence; and the impact of emerging technologies on crime and justice, broadly defined. Additionally, the candidate should possess knowledge of sociological perspectives on crime, law, deviance, social control, and justice. This position requires clear potential to publish high-quality peer-reviewed research. Candidates who can teach quantitative research methodology and quantitative reasoning courses at the undergraduate and graduate level are preferred.
The successful candidate will perform teaching, research and guidance duties in their area(s) of expertise, to include teaching in the Sociology Department and in the BA ICJ and MA IC&J programs. Applicants must demonstrate that they are qualified to teach core courses in the BA and MA ICJ programs, as well as the Criminology BA program. They also share responsibility for committee, department and ICJ program assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and demonstrated commitment to teaching and to develop and maintain an active research and publication agenda. QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise by July 2026 (ABD applicants will be considered but JDs are insufficient). Publications and teaching experience preferred. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated potential for scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
COMPENSATION
$55,450- $105,593. Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
