The Accounting Technician supports the home by reviewing and processing payroll-related transactions, employee expense reimbursements, and scheduling and timekeeping system (EST) updates. This involves monitoring and editing employee time entries; processing retroactive payroll adjustments and payouts; communicating and resolving time entry issues; applying provisions of collective bargaining agreements; creating payroll-related reports and files; and partnering/communicating with Human Resources staff. This position will also ensure EST is maintained, reviewed, accurate and updated by working with the home's department supervisors and staff to make corrections; troubleshoot EST problems; analyze and provide timekeeping reports; and provide EST training to new employees. In addition, this position will provide assistance with supply stocking and fixed asset tracking and accounting.
This position is designated as part-time. The work schedule will include at least 68 hours per two-week pay period. The schedule during payroll week is Monday - Thursday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm; Friday, 7:30 am - 11:30 am. The schedule during non-payroll week is Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm; Tuesday/Thursday, 7:30 am - 11:30 am. The position is initially eligible for a full employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience, which demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Knowledge and skills in reviewing and entering employee time and leave in a payroll or timekeeping system(s), such as the State Employee Management System (SEMA4), EST or comparable system.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
Math skills sufficient to calculate, review, adjust and reconcile payroll data.
Skills in data entry and using spreadsheet and word processing software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel, to create spreadsheets and other documents and accurately enter, maintain and report on payroll and timekeeping data.
Communications and customer service skills sufficient to train and guide staff on payroll and timekeeping procedures and requirements.
Ability to read, understand, and apply state and federal laws and collective bargaining agreement (CBA) provisions regarding employee work time, leaves and business expenses.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field.
One or more years of payroll processing experience.
Experience using SEMA4 and/or EST for employee timekeeping and payroll processing.
Experience applying CBA provisions related to employee time and leave.
Experience providing training and support to staff on payroll and timekeeping procedures and requirements.
Additional Qualifications
A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
