Class Summary
Job Description:
The Alternative Sentencing Specialist will be working with the criminal justice system evaluating, developing, and recommending non-custodial sentencing options for eligible offenders. This role will be focusing on identifying and coordinating rehabilitative, community-based programs aimed at reducing recidivism, supporting offender accountability, and enhancing public safety. Additionally, the incumbent will be coordinating referrals and mental health evaluations, as needed, as well as supporting clients and attorneys with program applications and required documentation.
Essential Duties:
Staying current on Gwinnett County Accountability Courts' program eligibility and application processes
Maintaining an up-to-date directory of public/private treatment facilities and local/state support programs
Preparing detailed sentencing reports for defense use and maintaining various records and reports
Conducting client assessments with defense attorneys to develop individualized sentencing plans
Evaluating criminal history, charges, mental health, substance use, housing, and employment needs
Researching and developing individualized alternative sentencing plans for indigent clients
Assisting with bonds and attending to other needs of defendants, related to the defense, but non-lawyer administrative tasks
Interviewing clients referred by attorneys
Determining eligibility for placement
Identifying and contacting available resources
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Human Services, or related field
2 years of social services, or related work, education, certifications, and/or licenses
Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
Other Job Requirements/Information
This job is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, after an initial probationary period and individual approval
Preferred Requirements:
Basic office principles;

Public Speaking:
Speaking duties as assigned by the court or at the direction of the Indigent Defense Governing Committee
Grade
The grade for this position is 100C. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
