Northern Montana Joint Refuse in Valier Montana is actively seeking a Full - time Landfill Truck Driver/Maintenance -
General Purpose:
Performs a variety of routine and complex skilled and semi-skilled work, and operates a variety of equipment, in the collection, transfer and disposal of solid waste.
Supervision Received:
Works under the immediate supervision of the Landfill Operator & Landfill Superintendent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Drives a collection/transfer vehicle over a designated route, depositing solid waste containers into various roll-off container sites and other locations as assigned. Transfers full containers for unloading at landfill as directed. Prepares containers for loading, transport and unloading. May be required to operate other equipment at District property during routine maintenance and operation of roll-off sites and landfill. Assists with hazardous materials screening and metal salvage in landfill. Makes special collections as assigned.
Notes variances to prescribed service.
Maintains cell phone or other communications with the District to receive or report variances to standard operations.
Conducts a daily inspection of tire air pressures, hydraulic pressure, air tanks, hydraulic fluids, transmission fluids, power steering, brakes, lights and other critical parts of a solid waste transfer vehicle prior to the execution of the daily tasks as required by the Department of Transportation.
Observes surrounding conditions such as citizens, equipment, property, etc. in order to assure that solid waste is collected and transferred in a safe manner; regulates traffic in hazardous conditions in order to assure safety conditions for other District personnel and the general public.
Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans and washes equipment.
Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, collection/transfer activity, etc.
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Peripheral Duties:
Assists with shop, landfill and roll-off site maintenance and litter control as needed.
Desired Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
a. Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent, and;
b. Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
a. Some knowledge of equipment, methods and procedures used in solid waste and recyclables collection and transfer activities;
b. Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment;
c. Proficient skills in driving and operation of large truck and trailer combinations and other district equipment;
d. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-worker's supervisors and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Special Requirements:
Valid Montana State Drivers' license and CDL certification.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Motorized vehicles and equipment, including transfer truck/trailer unit, recycling collection truck, utility truck, hydraulic lifts, compactor, track loader, wheel loader, grader, welder, common hand and power tools, rakes wrenches and cell phone, etc.

The employee must constantly lift and/or move up to 65 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet, muddy and/or humid conditions and vibrations. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
