The New York Times is continuing to expand its video journalism, identifying compelling visual stories across the depth and breadth of our report. We showcase the expertise of Times journalists on-camera, share urgent news updates, produce on-the-ground reporting, pioneering Visual Investigations, and video podcasts. We are seeking to fill a new director -level role in charge of recruiting video journalists and developing our current staff as we scale our video journalism.
You will help identify, nurture and recruit videographers, producers and other video journalists. You will also create mentorship opportunities for reporters and editors within the newsroom and collaborate with those in charge of developing those journalists' video responsibilities and skills. You will work in partnership with the leaders of our visual teams, our human resources partners and fellow members of the Culture and Careers team to realize our ambitions in video .
You are a self-starter who is versatile, has a strong interest in news in all formats and a comprehensive grasp of video roles and the production process. You are also a skilled communicator and collaborator who can work with multiple teams.
Responsibilities:
Talent pipeline:
Use the most effective channels, methods and approaches to proactively identify potential staff
Create innovative strategies and engagement to bring the most qualified candidates people to each role
Provide insights on marketplace trends that affect candidate pools
Maintain a robust pool of potential hires
Screening and hiring:
Evaluate the news judgment and reporting skills of potential and current candidates
Build and maintain positive relationships with hiring managers and key stakeholders including recruitment and human resources
Work with human resources and fellow members of Culture and Careers to develop best practices for screening and building relationships with talent pools.

You will report to the Senior Editor, Culture and Careers and work closely with the Associate Managing Editor, Visuals, the Director of Video and video leadership as well as the Culture and Careers team
Basic Qualifications:
7+ years' experience in an editorial position in news, particularly video journalism, preferably in a leadership role
Demonstrated understanding of video roles
Excellent interviewing, reporting and writing skills
Expert knowledge of reporting and editing in written and multimedia forms
Demonstrated experience in recruitment of video journalists
Proven ability building and maintaining an extensive journalism network and talent pipeline for a wide cross-section of roles in the newsroom.
Experience working with senior leaders to drive talent management initiatives in a fast-paced dynamic environment
Excellent people management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of journalistic talent across the U.S. and ability to engage in global talent
A passion for video storytelling and breaking news, feature and enterprise journalism.
Experience in high-growth environments
Track record of developing strong and trusting relationships, collaborating and building consensus
Experience and relationships with diversity organizations specializing in editorial talent
Comfort level with group training and delivering presentations to a variety of audiences
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$175,000 - $200,000 USD
