Summary You will serve as a Chemist in the Laboratory Quality and Accreditation Office (1561), Quality Performance Control Division (1560), Naval Shipyard Support Office (1500) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will perform current environmental chemistry and material testing. You will apply current environmental chemistry and materials test methods, standards, and practices within quality control. You will lead in the planning and execution of laboratory audits and assessments. You will adapt and develop new approaches and methods. You will evaluate data quality trends and develop, validate, and document new approaches to analyzing quality assurance/quality control for process improvement. You will provide technical assistance in evaluating compliance of chemical, metallurgical and materials engineering laboratories. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Experience applying current environmental chemistry and material test methods, standards and practices in quality control; Experience planning and executing laboratory audits and assessments including the review of quality control procedures, data and review of quality documents; Experience providing miscellaneous technical support for various environmental investigations. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess A. Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience with course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
