426039 - Bioinformatics Principal/Senior Scientist (Bioinformatic Analyst), Respiratory Immunology and Inflammation Research Unit
Our Respiratory, Immunology and Inflammation (RII) Analytic team has an exciting opening for a Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team. This role offers the chance to significantly contribute to the discovery and development of new treatments for a variety of diseases with unmet clinical need. You will work closely with teams throughout the department, delivering crucial data and analytics to guide project direction and strategy whilst simultaneously embodying and championing our culture.
We are looking for a passionate, innovative, and technically proficient bioinformatician eager to expand their existing data and analytics expertise within the biological field. You will be tasked with delivering value and impact through undertaking deep bioinformatic analyses, provisioning core omics data outputs, visualisations and insight, and promoting digital proficiency throughout our department, all with a focus to deliver new medicines to patients faster, and better.
Please note that depending on applicants' level of experience, this position may be considered at either the G8 or G7 level.

In this role you will
Implement bioinformatic analytic workflows to deliver RNA sequencing data, differential gene expression and pathway analysis from first principles, and potential to expand into single cell and other cutting-edge technologies
Explore and develop bespoke bioinformatic solutions, unique data visualisations, and innovative data wrangling approaches/pipelines
Combine your analytic skills and biological knowledge to maximise impact in progressing new medicine opportunities
Foster and accelerate continuous learning in digital fluency throughout the department
Collaborate with cross-functional analytic teams to design and implement computational solutions that address scientific challenges
Contribute to shape the strategy and ever-evolving future directions of the Respiratory and Immunology Analytic team
Maintain a high level of documentation for all experimental work, in line with data integrity standards
Why you?
Basic Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
PhD in Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Computational Biology or other closely related biological discipline and/or familiarity with biological drug discovery and development through significant experience in a pharmaceutical R&D department
Proficiency using programming languages such as R or Python to explore and analyse complex biological datasets
Experience with high-performance computing environments and bioinformatics tools
Evidence of having run end-to-end analysis of transcriptomic datasets from QC of raw data through to delivery of biological insights and impact
Strong understanding of biological concepts and statistical methods
Experience using generative AI tools to extract and summarise knowledge, or leveraging as a digital 'thought partner' to accelerate and enhance your work
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present scientific findings to internal and external stakeholders in a balanced, clear, andprecise manner
Excellent networking and collaborative skills with a proven track record of success in multidisciplinary team environments
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:
Experience of running deep analytic pipelines across the output from next generation sequencing technologies such as single-cell or spatial omics
Understanding of key AIML concepts, particularly in relation to drug discovery and development, and/or experience building machine learning models
Proficiency in complex data visualisation utilising dashboarding tools such as Spotfire, PowerBI or Tableau
Prior experience generating assay data in a biological laboratory setting (such as flow cytometry, protein assessment techniques, transcriptomics) and developing experimental methodology and system data outputs
