This is a multi-level posting for Winter positions throughout District 1 in Northeast Minnesota (multiple locations). If these positions are not filled by qualified applicants at the Transportation Generalist level, the position will be filled at the Transportation Associate level.

In the winter, the Transportation Generalist / Associate drives and operates a variety of heavy equipment to perform snow plow duties, including maintaining roadways; removes snow from roadways and shoulders; applies anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on stretches of highway under slippery conditions; removes frozen ice and material from culverts; prepares and inspects winter equipment, such as snow plow equipment, cutting edges and sanders; and cleans equipment post storm. Position performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup including machine or hand sweeping; performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals; which includes all setup work associated with liquid anti-icing and de-icing chemicals, hauling, mixing, measuring, and reporting. This position also performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; and replacing mailboxes; maintains documentation on snow and ice; and performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles.
Applicants must be available during the week, weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays for snow & ice events. Must be able to report to hired work location within one hour of being called.
Minimum Qualifications

Transportation Generalist Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience). Must have written and oral communication skills sufficient to keep records and read and interpret directions.
Minimum of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction at the time of application. Driver's license history will be reviewed. Tanker endorsement must be achieved within 2 weeks of hire date. Applicant resume must clearly state how you meet this requirement in order to be considered.
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Transportation Associate Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction at the time of application and the ability to have tanker endorsement within 2 weeks of hire.
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work nights; may be required to work outside exposed to the weather elements (both hot and cold) on an intermittent basis. The employee will drive a motor vehicle in on & off road conditions. Periodically, the employee will walk on even and uneven sloping ground. The employee must frequently and continually rotate through various body positions (standing, twisting, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting). The employee will occasionally operate machinery and equipment (using vision and hearing) under varying temperatures. The employee may need to infrequently move between 50 and 70 pounds by pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying. The employee must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment to protect the head, eyes, hearing, respiration, visibility, and feet from injury.
