Summary:The Medication Aide is responsible for maintaining the delivery of medication and health related items to the residents within a community. The Medication Aide assists in developing, coordinating and performing the tasks on the service plan according to the resident's preferences and abilities during their assigned shift. The Medication Assistant serves as a supervisor and monitor to all the Resident Assistants on the same shift.Duties and Responsibilities:Adheres to and conveys the philosophy of Assisted Living. Has awareness and practices in accordance with the regulations of the state.Receives report from the previous shift and Med Aide.Maintains physician's orders in accordance with policy.Communicates appropriately with physicians, Administrator, Wellness Director, outside health care agencies and others as appropriate. Utilizes communication tools as per policy.Consistently complete documentation using appropriate tools in accordance with policy.Maintains the Medication Assistance Records in accordance with policy and procedure.Orders, stores and assists with self administration of medications in accordance with current state regulations and community policy and procedure.Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.Assures door is alarmed at all times, if needed.Reports deficiencies observed in resident apartments clothing/linen and community to administrator. Completes Incident Report form as needed for any unusual occurrence.Observes and communicates any changes in resident physical or mental status as directed.Is thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons and other emergency procedures, follows community policy and procedures detailed in fire and disaster plans.Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment. Maintains a neat and orderly Medication Room.Wears name tag at all times.Maintains resident record for each resident including but not limited to, obtaining current physician orders, clarifying orders, and alert and monthly charting.Maintains service plans. May participate in Service Plan reviews.Supervises and monitors Resident Assistant staff on assigned shift.Performs all other related duties assigned by Wellness Director or Administrator.Job Qualifications:Performs resident care with an awareness of dignity and individuality, with understanding and concern.Maintains acceptable attendance record; notifies supervisor if late or unable to work in accordance with personnel policies; follows work schedule.Requires minimal supervision. Is a self-starter.Organizes and utilizes time appropriately; sets priorities and accomplishes assigned tasks.Displays mature behavior and attitude in speech and action; demonstrates consistently pleasant demeanor, tone of voice, supports the philosophy and approach to care used by the community.Keeps resident information confidential; respects resident's rights; respects privacy and right to self-determination of residents.Performs unpleasant tasks with grace; works cooperatively with supervisors and displays willingness to assist co-workers.Abides by established policies and procedures of community. Looks for ways to improve community functioning.Keeps work areas neat and clean; helps maintain appearance of community.Is able to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.Has ability to spend long periods on feet and to ambulate quickly.Is free of non-treated communicable disease.Is accurate, dependable, neat and thorough in assigned tasks.Ability and willingness to learn quickly.Ability to utilize and apply basic management skills.Universal Precautions:Exposure to blood/bodily fluids is likely.Physical Requirements:Has ability to do occasional heavy lifting of residents (up to 40 lbs.).
