Summary This position is for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Supply Chain Management service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. The primary purpose of the position is to ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Supply Chain Management. Responsibilities Oversees the maintenance of stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services. Ensures the monitoring of expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates. Oversees the performance of daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders. Ensures items are delivered in a timely and accurate manner and in sterile and operational condition. Ensures proper handling and safeguarding of unique supplies and special purpose items within the Laboratory, Research and Specialty Medicine and Surgical areas including patient specific items. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of medical expendable supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitoring expiration dates; ensuring medical supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of medical supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of wok production and quality of work.
