Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) delivers exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste. H2C seeks an Mechanical Engineer to join the Direct Feed Low Activity Waste (DFLAW) Engineering team supporting West Area Projects Engineering.
DFLAW Engineering supports several key projects that directly support the Department of Energy's key objective to provide both direct feed of Hanford Tank Waste to the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) and West Area Treatment capability to support future Single Shell Tank Retrieval operations. These projects provide opportunities to support Conceptual Design through full Plant Operations dependent on individual experience and career goals. Providing support to all these Projects, DFLAW Engineering provides great diversity and career development for all levels of Engineering experience.
West Area Projects Engineering includes the West Area Risk Management Project (WARM), SY-103 Remediation, SY Infrastructure Upgrades and the Flush/Water Building Projects. T
The Engineer filling these roles will:
Act as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of the assignments.
Conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
Demonstrate interpolative patterned thinking.
Function as a team member on a task force or special assignment.
Meet the following scope and expectations:
Perform engineering calculations, analysis, studies, and recommendations for a specialized segment of engineering within schedule and budget of an assigned project.
Seek to gain a complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field.
General knowledge of other related disciplines.
Set challenging goals for personal and group accomplishments.
Develop and sustain productive customer relationships.
Assist in preparation of Statements of Work, design products, procurements, specifications, etc.
Function as a team member consisting of both internal and external resources
Assist in technical and cost/benefit evaluations and development of task plans and schedules.
Assist in preparation design media.
Prepare Engineering documents, evaluations, and calculations.
Perform routine administrative activities/duties on time (routine training, safety meetings, TIS, continuing training, staff meetings).
Ensure all documents prepared are of "stand alone" quality.
Seek to understand engineering work assignments and to be self-directed.
Be customer service oriented, completing assignments safely, on time, and within budget.
Provide technical guidance to subcontractors in the execution of design (e.g., ensure use of correct design inputs, utilization of accepted analysis methodologies, design standards, and verification methods).
Required Qualifications
Grade 19:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Nine (9) years of related experience
Grade 20:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Ten (10) years of related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Grade 21:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Twelve (12) years of related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.
Desired Qualifications
Previous experience in a nuclear facility
Medium to large scale fabrication experience
Compensation & Benefits
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
Hiring Range Minimum: $117,225
Hiring Range Maximum: $179,113
