What You Will Do
The MSS-TA55 Group delivers critical maintenance services to FOD 1 and is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of facility maintenance at the TA-55 Plutonium Processing Facility, a key asset in support of LANL's national security mission.
As the Deputy Maintenance Manager (Maintenance Manager 4) within the MSS-TA55 Group, you will work in close partnership with the MSS-TA55 Group Leader (GL), first-line managers, and division leadership to provide leadership, strategic direction and hands-on technical management. Reporting directly to the Group Leader, you will help ensure sound program execution, responsible fiscal management, adherence to safety and security protocols, staff development, and maintenance & operational excellence.
As the Deputy Maintenance Manager, you will assist in the overall management of group operations and lead various process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Assist in the development and implementation of the Work Week Management Program for MSS-TA55.
Collaborate with TA-55 partner organizations to ensure maintenance activities are efficiently & effectively aligned with the Pit Production Mission.
Oversee maintenance prioritization processes to ensure timely planning, scheduling, and execution in support of TA-55's mission.
Review and manage scope changes to active work packages, ensuring major revisions are identified and executed appropriately.
Coordinate integration across maintenance coordination, planning, work control, work week scheduling, and execution functions.
Contribute to the development of a robust TA-55 qualification and training program for maintenance personnel.
Support implementation of P950, Conduct of Maintenance, and ensure adherence to program requirements.
Drive team efficiency and productivity by promoting collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Support the Group Leader in setting strategic goals, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), department & group performance metrics, priorities (maintenance & operational), and performance expectations.
Contribute to the professional development and mentorship of MSS-TA55 staff.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Facility Management: Familiarity with Conduct of Engineering practices and procedures within a manufacturing and/or nuclear facility. Experience working within manufacturing and/or nuclear facility work control processes.
Maintenance Operations: Strong working knowledge of maintenance & administrative management and work controls practices and procedures. In-depth knowledge of specific requirements for Integrated Safety Management, Formality of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance & Engineering. Demonstrated experience implementing and managing a T-week scheduling process and working across disciplines to support coordinated maintenance execution.
Technology: Proficiency with technical documentation and standard office tools, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Asset Suite, and related systems.
Leadership: Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with customers and stakeholders, and skilled in negotiation and conflict resolution. Experience in a supervisory or management role with a proven ability to lead teams, resolve complex issues, and develop staff through mentorship and performance management.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
DOE Order 426.2 Minimum Requirements: Position requires a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science, and 4 years nuclear experience. Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may fulfill 3 of the 4 years of nuclear experience on a one-for-one time basis.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs and ladders.
Desired Qualifications:
Active DOE Q Clearance.
Current Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification.
Maintenance management experience within a production facility environment.
Previous experience working in LANL facility operations, engineering, or maintenance.
Familiarity with formal qualification programs such as Configuration System Engineer (CSE).
Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) desired.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Work Schedule: Work schedule may require off-shift duty to support the TA-55 24/7 operations schedule.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
