Duties Description The New York State Education Department's Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Instructor (Library Media Specialist) position in the New York State School for the Blind. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: - Develop and administer an integrated school library media program;- Develop lesson plans and provide instruction to students in accordance with NYS Standards;- Instruct students and staff in effective use of media, information, and technology literacy skills;- Evaluate, select, and procure print and digital resources and related equipment/materials;- Develop policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation, services and facility use for a 21st century school library media program;- Implement a results-oriented information and technology literacy skills curriculum integrated with subject area curriculum through instructor partnerships;- Provide leadership and guidance for effectively integrating technologies with instruction to create 21st century learning opportunities;- Support instructors with research engines appropriate for our student population; and- Provide support for our students and staff in locating materials necessary to complete research related activities.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher AND a valid NYS Teaching Certificate in School Media Specialist (Librarian) or Library Media Specialist AND the ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting of children.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:- NYS Teaching Certificate in Special Education.- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI). It is essential that candidates clearly and concisely indicate exactly how they meet the above minimum qualifications in their resume. Failure to show how you meet the minimum qualifications above may result in disqualification and removal from consideration.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, unclassified, 10-month appointment, with the potential of working during the summer school session. Promotions and transfers may change appointees' negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of bachelor's degree will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. Verification of degree and/or transcripts and valid New York State teaching certification in School Media Specialist (Librarian) or Library Media Specialist will be required for all candidates at the time of interview. Candidates are required to possess valid New York State teaching certification in School Media Specialist (Librarian) or Library Media Specialist with active registration at the time of hire. Continued employment is dependent upon maintaining valid New York State teaching certification in School Media Specialist (Librarian) or Library Media Specialist, including adhering to all relevant professional development and training requirements as specified by the Office of Teaching Initiatives. Candidates with initial New York State teaching certification will be required to obtain a professional New York State teaching certification in School Media Specialist (Librarian) or Library Media Specialist prior to the expiration of the initial New York State teaching certification. Candidates with permanent or professional teaching certification must maintain valid certification and active registration. Failure to maintain a valid New York State teaching certification with active registration in School Media Specialist (Librarian) or Library Media Specialist will result in removal from employment. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant's expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicant's fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. The work schedule for this position will be 7:30 am - 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.*This position leads to a maximum salary of $79,834-$101,788 based on education level and annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position.
