Nature of Work\ Under general direction, performs work of unusual difficulty managing the operational, budgetary, and strategic functions of the Public Works Department; performs related work as assigned.\ Typical Duties\ (Illustrative Only)\ Assists the Director with the overall management of the department\ Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates departmental operations\ Hires, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines managerial, technical, administrative, and clerical staff who perform a range of functions\ Ensures compliance with all laws, policies, and regulations governing departmental operations\ Reviews records, evaluates operational data, and performs cost/benefit analysis\ Assists with the preparation and administration of the departmental budget\ Assists County departments with assigned projects\ Represents the department with the media, other agencies, and the public\ Acts as the Director in that person\'s absence\ Essential functions include but are not limited to: working with and around others; working with frequent interruptions; repetitive (hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder) motion for computer work; visual acuity (near and far) for computer work and working with applicants; color vision for working with computer screen; hearing and speech for ordinary and conversations and training; touch for computer work; visiting construction sites in remote and difficult terrain.
