This position will be part of MNIT's Human and Social Digital Services (HSDS) team, which supports agency teams at these state agencies: Department of Human Services (DHS), MNsure, the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), and Direct Care and Treatment (DCT). The MNIT HSDS team combines development and IT operations with a DevOps approach to ensure the reliable and efficient delivery of critical technology systems that serve counties, families, and individuals across Minnesota.
The Lead ETL Developer will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of ETL processes used to manage and optimize data workflows in the MAXIS/MEC2 environments. This role will focus on extracting, transforming, and loading data into the data warehouse, ensuring data integrity, security, and efficiency. The Lead ETL Developer will collaborate with various teams, including Data Warehouse architects, source system teams, and program staff, to develop high-quality, reliable, and automated solutions. Additionally, this position requires troubleshooting and production support to ensure seamless data operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT experience in data warehousing, ETL processes, and SQL scripting.
Experience must include:
Working with data transformation and load processes using Teradata or similar relational database platforms.
Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex queries, joins, and scripts for data extraction and transformation.
Hands-on experience with ETL tools such as BTEQ, FastLoad, TRelational, Teradata utilities, and mainframe utilities (JCL, Natural, UNIX, IOF/SPF).
Solid understanding of data schema design, relational databases, data encryption (at rest and in transit), and optimizing data retrieval.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address complex data integration, transformation, and performance issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex technical details to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Providing excellent customer service, including active listening, empathy, and effective problem-solving.
A master's degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor's degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate's degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience with MAXIS/MEC2, or a similar data integration environment, including working knowledge of systems architecture, design, and data management.
Expertise in automating ETL processes using modern tools and technologies to streamline workflows.
Knowledge of data retention and data security best practices for handling sensitive information.
Familiarity with data governance principles, including data quality, metadata management, and compliance with data security standards.
Experience with data lineage and data integrity verification processes.
Experience leading small to medium-sized teams or projects, including the ability to manage tasks, timelines, and stakeholder communication.
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members and assist with career development.
