As an Information Security Principal Engineer, you will provide expert technical direction, complex problem resolution and leadership in the design and implementation of information security solutions. This position is a hands-on technical leadership position. This position has a critical role in the determination and creation of ever-changing security defense mechanisms in place at DPS. The Information Security Principal Engineer (ISPE) is responsible for implementation of security solutions within the Department of Public Safety Network, as well as performing security monitoring, reporting, and auditing functions.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 445 N Minnesota St, St Paul, Minnesota up to 3 days per week, with the opportunity to work from a telework location on other days . Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of technical experience in an infrastructure focused information security role that includes: Providing leadership in implementing, and updating information system security policies, guidelines and technical standards.
Proven hands-on experience with Infrastructure architecture and design in physical and cloud environments.
Providing leadership and guidance and governance to multiple teams working with ensuring the security of Microsoft, Unix/Linux, internet applications/systems and hardware to secure these systems (i.e. firewalls, virtual private networks, encryption, digital certificates, and their relationship to data security).
Working in a highly regulated, large and heterogeneous environment with the ability to articulate security controls, measures and recommendations to a leadership team.
Proven experience training end users on how to use enterprise software.
Proven experience and leadership working across diverse business lines to resource and monitor remediation efforts to ensure compliance policies and standards or regulations.
Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
A master's degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR a related bachelor's degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR a related associate's degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications: CISSP or other relevant information security certification.
Wireless and wireless mobile environments including WLAN, WEP, WPA and encryption.
Vulnerability Management systems and remediation strategies using various tools such as NetBrain, FireMon, Nessus Tenable, Acuentix, SolarWinds, and CrowdStrike.
Ability to communicate complex security requirements and solutions to both technical and non-technical internal and external customers, agency staff, vendors, and other governmental agencies.
Ability to prepare and conduct presentations and training classes on computer security policies, procedures, and guidelines, requirements, and system solutions.
Negotiation and consensus building skills.
Leadership and project management skills to oversee multiple projects of varying size and scope simultaneously.
Strong communication skills sufficient to clearly communicate highly technical concepts, and to introduce new technological tools or methods.
