THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Accounting Associate, you will participate in a comprehensive training program to acquire the skills and experience necessary to conduct a wide-range of Commonwealth accounting functions in support of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB). Specific duties include learning how to analyze financial data and transactions posted to the general ledger (GL) and compiling spreadsheets to utilize as the basis for reconciling in-house revenue and expense data, preparing journal entries, reconciling discrepancies, and initiating corrective actions. You will also assist with performing in-depth cost analyses at the cost center and GL account level to determine variances between similar fiscal periods, and research, document, and provide explanations for any differences.
This professional collaborates with the State Stores Fund which is a complex and detailed enterprise fund involving accrual accounting. Data is recorded, analyzed, and maintained in Oracle Cloud Financials (CFIN) GL module, which is the basis for all financial reporting for the PLCB. This position also assists with the preparation of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) templates for the Commonwealth's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, with occasional in-office days when work dictates such requirements. You will be required to report to headquarters to pick up your equipment and attend periodic meetings at your expense. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years as an Accounting Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting ;or
Two years as a Fiscal Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting ;or
A bachelor's degree including 21 credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting ; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
