Summary You will serve as a FIRE ALARM MECHANIC in the NAVFAC MIDLANT NORFOLK, VA, FACILITIES SUSTAINMENT E/U/S/PM IV of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC. Responsibilities You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of moderate to highly complex operational Fire alarm Systems. You will troubleshoot and repair new systems during operational tests and uses expert skill and judgement to improvise procedures to resolve unforeseen problems or defects. You will calculate proper notification coverage, wiring, monitoring, and control of fire alarm associated components in complex and integrated facility-level fire alarm/detection systems. You will perform engineering technician-level calculations such as power supply capacity, standby current, battery load, voltage drop, and impedance of circuits in tested systems. You will follow prescribed job plans for routine and reoccurring inspection, testing and maintenance procedures. You will electronically document installs, maintenance, testing, repairs, inspections and impairments as required. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Install, perform maintenance, and repair of moderate to highly complex operational Fire alarm Systems utilizing application of advanced electronic theory; 2) Troubleshoot and repair new systems during operational tests using expert skill and judgement to improvise procedures to resolve unforeseen problems or defects; 3) Utilizing and applying knowledge of International Code Counsel (ICC) International Building Code (IBC), NFPA 70 The National Electrical Code, NFPA 72 The National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code; 4) Applying knowledge of operation, capabilities, and limitations of fire alarm control equipment and systems to new or extensively modified systems; 5) Interpret, understand, and apply the various @types of electrical wiring diagrams, specifications, schematics, sketches, blueprints, and drawings that are used in the fire protection trade; and 6) Compute voltage, amperage, resistance and capacitance factors of printed circuits and master alarm circuit components. FOR WAGE GRADE 12 POSITION ONLY: Incumbent must demonstrate one of the following qualifying requirements has been met and is currently maintained. Qualified Personnel must meet the standards set in UFC 3-601-02Section 1-10.2.1. Acceptable requirements are as follows: 1. A recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualifications for fire protection systems, such as National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II certification in Inspection and Testing Fire Alarm Systems, or Level II certification in Fire Alarm Systems. 2. A recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualifications for fire alarm systems, such as a formalized labor organization-based journeyman training, or similar programs. 3. A qualification or license from any state (or local jurisdiction if delegated authority by the state) and supporting continuing education if required by the local jurisdiction.
