Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Hampton, Virginia. In this Contract-to-Permanent position, you will play a critical role in managing financial activities, ensuring compliance, and supporting the university's financial operations. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your expertise in accounting within the higher education sector.

Responsibilities:

Ensure adherence to internal control policies and financial reporting requirements to maintain accuracy and compliance.

Oversee general ledger operations for endowment accounts, including setting up accounts and performing monthly reconciliations.

Conduct trial balance analysis, make necessary adjustments, and execute monthly closing entries.

Reconcile investment accounts and prepare corresponding journal entries to ensure accuracy.

Maintain and monitor financial systems, ensuring proper daily balancing and account integrity.

Assist in the preparation for annual audits and ensure compliance with debt agreements and donor-imposed restrictions.

Generate monthly financial analyses and reports, as well as ad hoc reporting as needed.

Collaborate with financial teams and departments to streamline processes and improve overall financial operations. Requirements - Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the education or nonprofit sector.

Proficiency in preparing and managing journal entries and general ledger activities.

Strong knowledge of month-end closing processes and financial reconciliations.

Familiarity with Banner or similar financial software systems.

Experience managing endowment funds and related financial operations.

Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Effective communication skills for collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders.
