Weaponeering Methodology Subject Matter Expert (SME) (DETO-2025-23581):
Bowhead is seeking a Weaponeering Methodology SME to provide services on a Part time On-call basis to support to NSWCDD. The position is located at Dahlgren, VA, in support of projects in H Department, NSWCDD. Duties include but are not limited to supporting the JTCG/ME Enhanced Weaponeering & CDE IPT. Tasking supports the development of methodology for a new weaponeering and CDE tool for mitigated munitions, including authoring development plans, providing SME guidance, and conducting methodology reviews.
This position will require onsite work at the Bowhead office or Navy installation.
Responsibilities
Job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Deep understanding of weaponeering principles, including kinetic and non-kinetic effects
Experience with Joint Munitions Effectiveness Manuals (JMEM) and related tools
Familiarity with target analysis, weapon-target pairing, and mitigation strategies
Working knowledge of CJCSI 3160.01, CDE methodology, and related DOD policies
Experience integrating mitigation strategies (e.g., aimpoint refinement, weaponeering alternatives)
Understanding of blast, fragmentation, and thermal effects of various munitions
Familiarity with modeling tools.
Experience writing or contributing to methodology development plans and technical documentation
Ability to review and validate modeling assumptions and outputs for scientific rigor and operational relevance
Experience working with developers and engineers to translate methodology into tools/software
Understanding of requirements traceability, verification/validation, and end-user integration
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Military Science, or a related technical field.
In Lieu of Education: An Associate's degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience in weaponeering, targeting, CDE, or weapon effects modeling may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree. In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of direct experience in operational weaponeering and CDE analysis may be considered.
Ten (10) years' experience in mechanical design and test.
Three (3) years' experience in mechanical engineering design and development.
Current experience in use of CAD programs.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate output data and concepts simply and concisely for senior leaders.
Analytical thinking to identify risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time.
Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to obtain or maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
