WHO ARE WE
The Texas Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Division administers 12 federal child and special nutritionandmore than $2.5 billion in federal money annually used to fund the programsfor the State of Texas.
WHAT YOULL DO
The Outreach Marketing Specialist will develop, direct and coordinate outreach efforts for the Food and Nutrition (FN) Division to support awareness and participation in FN programs. You will develop outreach and marketing plans and create, route and distribute outreach and marketing materials to further FN initiatives and programs. You will work under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with division management of outreach and marketing activities including the design, development, implementation, monitoring and enhancement of a strategic work plan to establish division goals, strategies, and tactics.
Develop and implement outreach and marketing plans; includes developing marketing tactics, manage assigned projects from inception to completion ensuring project schedules are completed within agreed-upon timeframes.
Assist with contract management and oversight of purchase orders that support FN activities from initial request to completion.
Oversee and coordinate the fulfillment and printing of various materials including writing technical specifications, tracking related records, resolving technical issues that may occur, and ensuring completion of requested work.
Oversee processing requests for materials from TDA warehouses and assist in completing inventory checks.
Develop surveys, analyze program data, track and establish project metrics for the purpose of improving assigned projects and Division goals.
Develop reports, outreach materials, and other communication items.
Assist in developing and/or presenting program updates and trainings
Assist with coordination of special events from concept to final briefing.
Serve as a backup to update FN website, Squaremeals.org.
Follow all TDA policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION (The application must state how each of the following qualifications are met - resumes do not take the place of the required state of Texas application which must be completed in CAPPS or WIT.)
Bachelors degree (One year of work experience related to the primary responsibilities may substitute for one year of college).
Two (2) years work experience creating and implementing original outreach ideas, plans and promotions.
Experience using In Design, Illustrator of Photoshop.
Masters degree with major course work in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design or related may substitute for undergraduate degree and the (2) years required work experience.
Internal candidates must meet or exceed expectations in all performance categories on the current evaluation, with a score of 3.5 or higher.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelors degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design or related field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS ABILITIES
Knowledge of modern marketing principles and procedures; marketing and promotion of products or services; state purchasing and procurement processes and procedures; and current nutrition trends and issues.
Skill in the use of critical thinking; project management; strategic planning; making presentations groups; providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers; and skill in the use of a computer and applicable software.
Ability to develop marketing strategies; establish goals and objections; work in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment; organize and work independently, as well as within a team environment; communicate effectively; to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines while maintaining extreme attention to detail; and to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May involve travel (up to 20%), occasionally overnight.
TELEWORK WORK HOURS
The agency does not offer telework. TDA employees are required to be physically present for work.
The agencys core business hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. TDA also provides limited customer service between 6:00-8:00 a.m. and 5:00-6:00 p.m.
