ACADEMIC SPECIALIST -- UPWARD BOUND

GECAC, the largest anti-poverty organization in Erie County, PA, is seeking an Academic Specialist in the Upward Bound program of our Employment, Workforce and Self Sufficiency (EWSS) Division. With a budget of approximately $12 million and more than 100 staff, we help people and change lives on a daily basis. GECAC helps people throughout Erie County break the cycle of poverty and obtain self-sufficiency and financial independence. Will you join our team?

Are you passionate about education and student achievement? We're seeking an enthusiastic Academic Specialist to support high school students through academic advising, counseling, and coordination of educational experiences.

This rewarding Academic Specialist position is full-time.

Job Summary:

Deliver direct academic services during both the school year and the summer program components.

Offer general counseling and motivational support at schools and central locations.

Coordinate with external professionals to support students' development.

Create, adjust, and manage case plans tailored to student needs.

Make appropriate referrals and maintain detailed records.

Organize educational field trips and other enrichment activities.

Work under regular supervision while prioritizing tasks independently.

Qualifications:

Background in education, counseling, social work, or a related field preferred.

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Commitment to student empowerment and holistic support.

Additional Requirements:

Minimum Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred.

Must provide current Act 33, Act 34, and FBI clearances issued within the past five years.

Must comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

Proof of education required prior to hire.

Must have access to pa rivate automobile and a valid PA driver's license. Required to have appropriate auto insurance as required by the agency.
