About the Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI) :
The purpose of the Indiana Department of Insurance is to protect Hoosiers as they purchase and use insurance products to keep their assets and their families from loss or harm. Consumers may need assistance with certain claim situations or just help in understanding how their policies work. Our other primary obligation is to monitor the financial solvency of the insurance companies domiciled in Indiana so that the legal promises made in insurance policies are honored. To these ends, our Department staff is committed to providing exceptional customer service for both our consumers and our companies, and to maintain a fair and objective viewpoint as we examine each issue and circumstance within our jurisdiction.
Role Overview :
The Junior Insurance Examiner exercises independent judgment and initiative, sets priorities on work to be accomplished on a day-to-day basis and develops approaches to be used within agency policies and objectives.? Agency management usually provides guidance for planning examinations.? Your work is reviewed for technical accuracy and for compliance with agency policy.? This role participates in the examining of the insurance company and the formulation and editing of the examination report.?This report in almost all cases is accepted as the final summary of the insurance company's operations.?In the course of an examination most of the individual's decisions and recommendations are either closely reviewed by a supervisor or are the result of a group effort.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Examine corporate records, policies, procedures, and treatment of policy holders to determine effectiveness of company management and compliance with the insurance code and regulations.
Analyze reinsurance treaties for their propriety of soundness in the spreading of risks.
Analyze investment transactions for legality, valuation and proper classification and reporting of income received and accrued.
Participate in writing the examination report.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
Specialized knowledge of insurance accounting and applicable laws.
Specialized knowledge of, and ability to apply, financial examining practices and procedures as used in insurance examining.
Working knowledge of the organization and practices of various @types of insurance companies.
Working knowledge of, and ability to apply, provisions of the law governing insurance companies, related legal opinions and court decisions, departmental policies, rules and regulations and insurance industry standards as established by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
Working knowledge of new insurance practices, trends, developments, and techniques.
Basic knowledge of business law.
Ability to gather and analyze data and reach sound conclusions.
Ability to prepare clear, complete, and concise reports.
Ability to qualify for a fidelity bond.
Effective communication skills.
Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
