Description We are looking for a skilled Project Accountant to join our team in Chicago, Illinois. This Contract-to-permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to manage financial aspects of various projects while collaborating with internal stakeholders and clients. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in project accounting and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities:

Enter and manage project budgets in Sage accounting software, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Process and code job-specific invoices after approval from directors or project managers.

Maintain comprehensive records related to projects, including contracts and change orders.

Monitor project expenses and charges, identifying any discrepancies and ensuring proper allocation.

Investigate variances in project costs and prepare detailed variance reports for management.

Prepare and issue all project-related billings to clients, while addressing any billing discrepancies.

Respond to client and management inquiries, providing detailed financial information as needed.

Collect and review subcontractor waivers and supporting documentation to ensure compliance.

Compile necessary documentation for audits, both internal and external, as requested.

Collaborate with internal team members and provide financial reports or support for special projects as required. Requirements - Associate's degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of relevant experience.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Proven attention to detail and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with Sage/Timberline preferred.

Demonstrated ability to anticipate and resolve issues proactively.

Prior experience in a privately-held company is advantageous but not required.

Solid mathematical and analytical skills to manage complex financial data.
