Location : This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. ?The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for engineering and design to support the sustainable operation of our distribution, generation, and storage system. The incumbent works with teams across the organization and external stakeholders, and leads complex technical projects and may manage the work of lower level engineers and technicians as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment
Ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities
Prepare specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials and estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation
Ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps to investigate and resolve project issues in a timely manner
Design, control, and implement electrical systems and products
Serve as the primary point of contact with clients for all electrical engineering project matters
Manage the development and implementation of electrical systems
Design, maintain, implement, or improve electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes
Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects and monitor project progress and budget, and prepare reports for upper management
Write reports and compile data regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies and provide technical support to other departments and personnel as needed

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Proficient in design and calculation software
Organizational skills and attention to detail
Knowledge of the theory and practice of electric utility distribution planning, construction, operation, and maintenance
Working knowledge of electric utility operation (i.e. generation, transmission and distribution of three phase alternating current power)
Knowledge of distribution planning principles is an asset
Knowledge of applicable codes related to electronic engineering
Written and verbal communication skills
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience in a Project Engineer with an Electrical discipline
Experience in SCADA equipment
Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of experience in an advanced electrical engineering capacity
[OR] Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of experience in an advanced electrical engineering capacity
