Team Overview
Our team is responsible for building software in support of CoStar Group's sales teams. We think big; building innovative CRM features that empower our sales teams' successes. We are a collaborative group with a mix of native mobile, data, API / platform, and front-end skills, and we are working to drive our company's future with our proprietary CRM system.
Position Overview
The Director, Software Engineering, you will serve as the chief problem solver across multiple engineering teams, diving deep into the most complex technical challenges and guiding resolution with hands-on expertise. You will be expected to stay closely engaged with the details-actively contributing to software development, including writing and reviewing SQL and application code. This role demands a leader who thrives in the weeds, balances strategic oversight with tactical execution, and ensures projects are delivered on time and to the highest quality standards. You will also be responsible for tracking progress across initiatives, removing roadblocks, and fostering a culture of accountability and technical excellence.
This position is located in Richmond, VA and offers a schedule of Monday to Thursday in office and the option to work from home on Friday.
Responsibilities:
Leading cross functional product development teams to deliver innovative products to our customers, while also acting as a player/coach.
Architecting, building, testing, and deploying scalable, reusable, and maintainable applications that handle large amounts of data.
Taking full ownership of your work, from development and testing to eventual deployment and support in production.
Collaborating with other engineering teams, product owners, designers, and leadership.
Launching and scaling technically complex and innovative products.
Becoming a trusted team member in matters of technical architecture, design, and code.
Advocating for evolution and improvement - both technical and non-technical - within our teams. ?Includes new tech, tools, and best practices.
Gaining a deep understanding of the CoStar business.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited, not-for-profit college or university in computer science, or related fields required.
Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams, with 10+ years in software development and 5+ years in leadership roles.
Exceptional analytical and technical skills with strong understanding of design principles and methodologies.
Deep understanding of system architecture, scalable design, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Proficiency in SQL and database design.
Hands-on experience with modern, strongly @typed programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, C++).
Ability to align engineering initiatives with business goals and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Skilled in project and program management, including tracking deliverables, managing timelines, and ensuring quality standards.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to translate conceptual ideas into products.
Experience partnering and collaborating across functional teams to reach goals.
Track record of commitment to prior employers
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Real world experience designing and implementing complex application architectures on Amazon Web Services.
Experience with any testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, Mocha, and Chai.
Experience with Docker, Datadog, Kubernetes and Container orchestration.
