Summary The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon is responsible for representing the United States in virtually all litigation involving the United States in the District of Oregon. This position is located in Portland, Oregon. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement. Responsibilities This position will be located in the Criminal Division of the District of Oregon. The District prosecutes a full range of federal criminal cases. Individuals selected for these Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Positions in the Criminal Division will be responsible for the investigation and prosecution of cases that may include drug trafficking including wiretaps; violent crimes including firearms offenses, child exploitation, human trafficking, civil rights violations, criminal immigration violations, organized crime, cyber, and fraud. Criminal AUSAs spend substantial time reviewing legal process, making charging decisions, discovery management, handling detention and suppression hearings, plea negotiations, trials, and sentencing. Attorneys in this Criminal Division also litigate on behalf of the United States handling criminal asset recovery matters as well as prosecute criminal money laundering offenses. The qualified applicant would be expected to (a) assist federal law enforcement agents in structuring and implementing criminal investigative plans and strategies; (b) participate in grand jury proceedings; and (c) litigate cases of moderate to high complexity from charging through trial and appeal. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as an AUSA is trained and gains experience. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: AUSAs should be capable of managing numerous ongoing matters; juggling court appearances, depositions and deadlines for discovery and pleadings in a collegial, supportive environment. Applicants should have experience appearing in court, arbitrations, and/or depositions. Applicant should possess superior research and writing abilities, with the ability to prepare high-quality, persuasive pleadings. Degree Additional Information Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $79,667 to $195,100 which includes 26.13% locality pay.
