A powerhouse litigation firm in Costa Mesa is seeking an experienced litigation secretary to join their team-oriented group of legal secretaries. The ideal litigation secretary will have 8+ years of experience in complex business law. Stability on the resume is a must. They want someone to join this team for the rest of their career!

Responsibilities of Role:

Working on silicosis cases:

eFiling in state, federal, and appellate courts (plus occasional filings under seal)

calendaring litigation deadlines (CompuLaw) - no docketing department

trial preparation (binders, exhibits, etc.) - office services department does the printing/tabbing

creating discovery shells and TOAs/TOCs - no word processing department

There is a night secretary who can finish up work after hours.

Strong tenure. Many support staff have been there 10, 15, 20 years.

Complex, high-end cases with notable clients.

Team pitches in to help each other out when one person is slammed.

"The secretaries operate as a team. If you have 4 attorneys, and one is doing an MSJ, that will take you all day. If you have other things you need to, we can put out an SOS like "who is available to help out with this?" and inevitably, a few will say "I can take it!" We are looking for someone willing to do that. You have to be nice! If not, you'll bring down the whole team!" - office manager

Details of Role:

Hours: 7.5 hour days. OT during trial preparation. 8:30-5 or 9-5:30, but depends on attorney needs.

Profile that would be a fit:

Law firm experience, not in-house litigation.

Little movement on the resume (they will not entertain folks who switch jobs every year or two).

Someone willing to step up and help others. The secretary team really does pitch in and help each other out.

Comfortable supporting high-end attorneys on complex cases

Requirements

Very strong calendaring skills (ideally in CompuLaw)

Knowledge of state, federal, and appellate court filings - please do not apply without this

Prior experience gearing up for trial

Team player mentality who will help other secretaries out
