The Manufacturing Process Engineer works out of our Austin, TX location of Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. What You'll Work On
The Manufacturing Process Engineer applies scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to complete assignments related to a specific technical field or discipline.
Responsibilities:
Plans and conducts small- to medium-sized engineering projects requiring conventional plans, investigations, and equipment.
Coordinates and monitors project activities; reviews implementation status and quality.
Develops and employs contingency plans to address schedule delays and financial overruns.
Tracks actual expenditures against projected cash flow for assigned projects.
Defines project scope with clients and estimates required resources (materials, budget, time, personnel).
Coordinates work with technicians and associate engineers; prepares contingency plans and budgets.
Participates in economic analysis and feasibility studies for project alternatives.
Shares responsibility for achieving financial targets aligned with business objectives.
Anticipates future trends and benchmarks internally and externally.
Recognizes environmental and resource changes as indicators of future challenges or opportunities.
Prepares for future needs by acquiring new engineering skills and capabilities.
Independently designs products, processes, equipment, systems, or facilities using standard engineering principles.
Conducts tests, gathers data, performs analysis, and communicates findings with recommendations.
Creates or modifies designs for intermediate and complex problems.
Writes detailed design specifications and improves existing processes.
Predicts trends, analyzes problems from multiple perspectives, and recommends solutions.
Implements process improvements and cost reductions; applies creative solutions and innovations.
Mentors others by sharing technical expertise and providing guidance.
Communicates effectively with internal teams and occasionally with external contacts.
Prepares formal and informal documentation, including proposals, reviews, and project summaries.
Builds strong relationships with colleagues, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Identifies customer needs and proposes tailored solutions; collaborates with external partners to enhance deliverables.
Ensures compliance with quality, environmental, health, safety, and energy standards.
Understands the impact of design changes and identifies compliance risks.
Develops procedures and standards; coordinates proto@type or experimental runs.
Directs the work of technicians and external resources.
Writes capital expenditure requests, safety/quality checklists, and scope documents.
Develops and executes validation protocols.
Resolves urgent issues such as process deviations, vendor non-compliance, and supply shortages.
Makes rapid, informed decisions in crisis situations using technical expertise.
Provides training on systems and processes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or closely related discipline is desired. Or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Minimum of 2 years of related work experience
Has demonstrated competency within a discipline.
Possesses a working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures.
Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment.
Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
Preferred Qualifications
Has a technical background in health care, nutritional products, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceutical, or similar industries.
