Job Description
Join the HII Mission Technologies - Our Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) works on the only shipyard to execute the RCOH of aircraft carriers halfway through a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier's 50-year service. The mid-life RCOH includes refueling of nuclear reactors, overhauling most machinery, and modernizing warfare systems. RCOH ensures the Navy's aircraft carriers incorporate improved capabilities needed for success in the remaining 25 years of service. Your accomplishments will make a positive impact supporting the U.S. Navy and America's national defense! We are seeking a TSME Welder to join our growing team. The selected candidate will be supporting RCOH by preforming a number of pipefitting processes and related duties on shipboard piping systems to assist with refit and fleet modernization.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Considered subject matter expert in technical specialty. May work directly with customer or customer representatives, attend meetings and deploy for special projects. Ability to manage, oversee, schedule and assign tasks to one or more multiple jobs. Installs, operates, maintains, repairs and modifies equipment. Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations. Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time. Installs, upgrades and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change. Maintains effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
Must be able to qualify SMAW & GTAW (Stick/Tig) in all processes of carbon and stainless steel (Pipe/Structural) welding within 90 days
Able to pass general and specific knowledge exam on welder workmanship
Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
Accurately fit-up and install components and foundations.
Interpret drawings and other weld specific documentation
Be able to communicate verbally and electronically, follow detailed instructions, and be self-motivated.
Ability to make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedure appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Preferred Requirements
Worked onboard US Naval Ships.
OSHA 10 Qualification
Able to supervise small team, providing guidance as needed.
Ability to obtain higher qualifications needed for the project i.e. ( Aluminum, Copper Nickel)
Ability to obtain thin wall qualification
Knowledge Oxygen/Acetylene and Plasma cutting processes.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards,under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
