The Field Construction Coordinator will be responsible for the management and safe execution of capital construction activities. This position reports to the Construction Lead while working closely with the responsible Project Leader, Operations, and various Refinery service organizations. These responsibilities are performed in both field and office work areas; however, the position is predominantly a field-oriented position
Responsibilities May Include:
Ensure consistent execution of projects with respect to safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
Coordinate and oversee the daily work of construction contractors and employee teams, interacting with various departments within the Refinery organization to safely execute field activities, including work permit administration, quality control, material procurement, and status reporting.
Ensure compliance with Company policies, procedures, engineering standards, industry practices, codes, and government regulations.
Read, understand, and interpret the scope of work as defined by construction drawings and specifications.
Assist the Project Leader in developing contracting strategies, reviewing, selecting, and awarding contracts.
Partner with engineering staff to manage project construction costs, schedules, and quality of work, and assist with correcting deficiencies when necessary.
Coordinate activities of contractor personnel, understanding the nature of the contract and overseeing the execution of work in accordance with contract terms.
Review and comment on project specifications and drawings prior to construction.
Partner with engineering staff to select contractors, determine crew size, and promote good contractor/Company relationships.
Collaborate with Company and contractor personnel to ensure proper prioritization and project efficiency.
Effectively control and manage "request for information" and "change order" processes.
Drive continuous improvement of construction execution through lessons learned reviews and incident/accident investigations.
Network with peers internally and externally to share best practices.
Support other refinery departments as needed, including maintenance during plant outages and turnarounds.
Required Qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Possess a valid driver's license
3 or more years of experience in field construction coordination / oversight, project management, or facilities maintenance
Experience in the construction (installation and erection) and maintenance of piping systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, fired heaters, storage tanks, rotating/reciprocating machinery and to a lesser extent the installation of electrical and instrumentation
Knowledge of schedule activities and schedule forecasting
Knowledge of construction procurement, material handling and fabrication activities
Experience with oversight of construction contractors and construction strategies
Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following:
Work outside 12 months a year in extreme temperatures
Able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds
Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height
Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
Work outside in harsh weather conditions
Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection)
Willing and able to maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
Must currently hold, or be able to obtain, a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
Preferred Qualifications:
7 or more years of experience in field construction coordination / oversight
Industrial trade certifications
Experience interfacing with engineering and construction contractors
Knowledge of cost control and forecasting
Knowledge of manpower loading and logistics
Knowledge of Refinery, OSHA, and construction industry safe work practices
Clear and concise written and oral communications
The Lake Charles Refinery is located in Westlake, Louisiana. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. Facilities also include a specialty coker and calciner. The refinery processes a mixture of light to heavy, low- and high sulfur and low- and high-acid crude oils. It receives domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil through truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals, including the Beaumont and Clifton Ridge terminals and the Bayou Bridge Pipeline. Lake Charles produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include off-road diesel, home heating oil, feedstock for our Excel Paralubes joint venture, specialty graphite petroleum coke and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed in the southeastern and eastern United States by truck, rail car, barge or pipelines and exported to Latin America and West Africa.
