Duties Description The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Instructor (Library Media Specialist) position at the New York State School for the Deaf. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:- Developing and administer an integrated school library media program;- Develop lesson plans and provide instruction to students in accordance with NYS Standards;- Instruct students and staff in effective use of media, information, and technology literacy skills;- Evaluate, select, and procure print and digital resources and related equipment/materials;- Develop policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation, services and facility use for a 21st century school library media program;- Implement a results-oriented information and technology literacy skills curriculum integrated with subject area curriculum through instructor partnerships;- Provide leadership and guidance for effectively integrating technologies with instruction to create 21st century learning opportunities;- Support instructors with research engines appropriate for our student population; and - Provide support for our students and staff in locating materials necessary to complete research related activities.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association AND two years of full-time post-degree professional librarian experience AND candidates must possess a valid NYS Teaching Certificate in Special Education or a valid NYS Teaching Certificate of the Deaf.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications: - Experience working with deaf students.- Ability to communicate through ASL/Sign Language.It is essential that candidates clearly and concisely indicate exactly how they meet the above minimum qualifications in their resume. Failure to show how you meet the minimum qualifications above may result in disqualification and removal from consideration.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, unclassified, 10-month appointment, with the potential of working during the summer school session. Promotions and transfers may change appointees' negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of master's degree and/or transcripts and valid New York State teaching certification in Special Education or a valid NYS Teaching Certificate of the Deaf will be required for all candidates at the time of interview. Candidates are required to possess valid New York State teaching certification in Special Education or a valid NYS Teaching Certificate of the Deaf with active registration at the time of hire. Continued employment is dependent upon maintaining valid New York State teaching certification in Special Education or a valid NYS Teaching Certificate of the Deaf including adhering to all relevant professional development and training requirements as specified by the Office of Teaching Initiatives. Candidates with initial New York State teaching certification will be required to obtain a professional New York State teaching certification in Special Education or a valid NYS Teaching Certificate of the Deaf prior to the expiration of the initial New York State teaching certification. Candidates with permanent or professional teaching certification must maintain valid certification and active registration. Failure to maintain a valid New York State teaching certification with active registration in in Special Education or a valid NYS Teaching Certificate of the Deaf will result in removal from employment. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant's expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicant's fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday (8:00am - 3:30pm) and Tuesday through Friday (7:45am - 3:15pm).*This position leads to a maximum salary of $90,274-$101,788 based on annual performance advances and education level. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position.
