Summary The position is located at the Dayton VA Medical Center, Primary Care Service. The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) is directly responsible for the administrative/clerical duties of the Advanced Medical Support Assistants (AMSAs) in support of the implementation and sustainment of Primary Care operations and scheduling. The incumbent plans and directs the administrative support of the AMSAs and has full responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate team leader. Responsibilities Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include but are not limited to: Supervises AMSAs in Primary Care Service to include Dayton Main, Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), Daytime Nurse Triage (DTNT) and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) when needed. The MSAs consist of GS-5, GS-6, and/or GS-7 levels. Provides full range of administrative and supervisory duties which include assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements. Collaborates, communicates, and demonstrates outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills with all healthcare professionals to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations. Provides briefings, orientations, staff development, and training. Manages fiscal matters, forecasts resource and equipment needs, and identifies budget needs. Assigns work to be accomplished by subordinates; establishes and adjusts short-term priorities. Provides advice and instructions to supervised staff on work processes. Resolves complex problems. Provides mentoring, coaching, and takes disciplinary action when appropriate. Makes recommendations for improved operations. Extracts and analyzes data in order to compile reports. Keeps time and attendance records. Grade Determinations: Supervisory Medical Support Assistant, GS-8 Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the [GS-7] grade level [leading or supervising MSAs or equivalent administrative patient support staff in a non-VA medical inpatient, outpatient, or interdisciplinary setting. Assignment. [Supervisory MSAs at this level plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics. They have full responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate MSA team leader, supervisor, or equivalent administrative patient support staff in a non-VA medical inpatient, outpatient, or interdisciplinary setting. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: evaluating the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met; evaluating new products, equipment, and systems to make recommendations for improved operations; identifying educational or training needs; making final decisions on hiring selections; evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary. The employee has administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the subordinate lead, supervisor, and MSA's activities.
