Job Description Summary
At GE HealthCare we seek to improve lives in the moments that matter. The Surgery division is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the team that designs the top surgical imaging solutions in the world. Our passionate people are creating the products, solutions, and services our customers need to deliver the best patient care possible.
This Senior Electrical Engineer will be a part of the Electrical Engineering team that designs and maintains the next-generation mobile C-arms. The C-arm is a complex system that consists of many electrical engineering disciplines including Power Engineering, Control Systems, Design for Medical Device Safety, Design for EMC/EMI Compliance, PCB Design, Communications, Wireless Devices, and Embedded Systems.
The Surgery division of GE Healthcare in Salt Lake City designs and builds the world-class OEC Elite C-arm and the OEC 3D C-arm. These are mobile systems that provide X-ray images for many surgical needs including orthopedics, gastrointestinal, endoscopic, urologic, neurologic, critical care, emergency, and vascular procedures. This is all done with world-renowned image quality and minimal dose, both of which allow for minimally invasive procedures that lead to better patient outcomes and shorter recovery times. Our C-arms affect the lives of 80,000+ individuals every day in critical moments of care.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
Working with other Engineers, Architects, and Lead System Designers, the Senior Electrical Engineer will help to create and own the next-generation system architecture. Work will involve all engineering disciplines in the system, but a special focus on the following disciplines is desired.
In-depth knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design and prototyping.
Use of SPICE and other simulation tools to model and validate designs prior to prototyping
Familiarity with power systems and the ability to design circuits up to 300V in a safe and compliant manner.
Experience with firmware and embedded systems
Experience with various communication methods including CAN, Ethernet, USB, I2C, and SPI
In addition, the Senior Engineer will be expected to learn and understand the following:
Learn the physics behind X-ray generation and the details of high voltage generators. Be capable of consulting on generator design aspects within engineering and with external suppliers.
Understand the tradeoffs that different design decisions can have on electro-magnetic immunity and compliance. Use these skills to guide the system design and component selection to achieve a compliant system.
Learn the IEC safety standards for medical X-ray devices as they pertain to electrical components and use this knowledge to guide the product design, derive system requirements, and create test methods. This includes maintaining isolation diagrams.
The engineer will be expected to drive technical design from concept to execution. This includes prototyping, risk retirement, design reviews, reliability testing, creating requirements and verification plans, design documentation, manufacturing implementation, and field support. The engineer should be comfortable working with cross-functional teams, have solid technical communication skills, and a strong commitment to product safety, quality, and reliability.
