TrueBlue, the people company, is looking for a Lead Corporate Counsel focused on litigation with experience in employment and general liability. Experience with California employment law is preferred. This role will provide litigation support to the TrueBlue enterprise and our Brands. Our litigation team works on pre-litigation and litigation matters for TrueBlue. The Lead Corporate Counsel - Litigation attorney is responsible for managing a group of TrueBlue's cases and pre-litigation matters.

Responsibilities:
Manage litigation matters
Manage pre-litigation matters, including EEOC claims, records requests, demand and tender letters
Draft, edit and review pleadings, briefs, correspondence, and agreements
Analyze contracts, including indemnity and insurance provisions, and impact on litigation
Participate in the hiring and directing of outside legal counsel, including their work on TrueBlue legal proceedings to ensure the best interests of the company are protected
Draft case strategies, discovery, motions, case budgets, timelines, and risk assessments.
Interview internal witnesses
Review and edit outside counsel bills
Participate in legal proceedings involving the company, including administrative proceedings, negotiations and arbitrations.
Implement litigation management strategies that impact overall company results
Insource legal resources and reduction of spend by performing litigation work
Promote a culture that values and promotes collaboration between all stakeholders and business partners
Represent TrueBlue and its Brands to stakeholders. Strategize with various business lines regarding litigation matters and impact on business
Identify and resolve pre-litigation risks
Work with attorneys in other legal segments (i.e., compliance, commercial) to proactively identify and address key legal issues for management
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor and current admission in US jurisdictions
5+ years of related litigation experience with a firm or as in-house counsel.
Extensive litigation experience, including with preparing and responding to discovery, attending court proceedings and engaging in oral arguments, drafting and editing briefing, and taking and defending depositions.
Ability to independently run cases and strategize creatively while at the same time knowing when to seek manager input .
Subject matter expert knowledge, including litigation experience in several of the following areas: employment, tort, insurance coverage, commercial litigation, contract disputes, appellate law. Preferred experience in California employment law including wage and hour and single-plaintiff matters.
Proven experience working closely with business unit leaders and internal stakeholders
Ability to see the bigger picture to determine effective case strategies and exercise exceptional judgment with regard to all phases of the cases
Demonstrated risk assessment skills
Experience in managing people and effectively communicating within a corporate environment
Strong legal writing and editing skills
Ability to work independently, make decisions, and exercise independent judgment to the extent appropriate
Strong team leadership skills, including in coaching and mentoring and in working on cross-functional projects
Ability to effectively interact and build relationships with a diverse employee population
Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and presentation experience
Ability to manage multiple complex projects independently and meet deadlines under pressure
Strong analytical skills
Detail oriented and well organized
Significant mediation experience
Effective in interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations
Ability to analyze new and existing laws and regulations and relate those laws to operational procedures, company policies, and industry trends
Strong consultative approach to advising and guiding the business in achieving standards and operational excellence
Superior interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently in completing assignments promptly and thoughtfully
Excellent judgment and high ethical standards
Strong project and time management skills
Actively and consistently support the Company's business efforts
Equally effective as a leader and team member
Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook; Westlaw; Teams
Travel estimated at 5-10%
Salary Range: $140,000 - $163,000 annually, depending on experience and geographic location, plus eligibility for an annual bonus, subject to plan terms.
