Job Description
To ensure the security and integrity of the University's computing environment by monitoring, responding to, and managing security alerts and incidents. This position supports the University's cybersecurity initiatives by providing foundational technical and analytical support, managing security tickets, and assisting in the identification and mitigation of security threats. This role contributes to the department's objective by maintaining effective security operations, ensuring timely incident response, and supporting the continued confidentiality, integrity, and availability of services offered by ITS and across the University.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
Working knowledge of systems administration tasks in operating systems such as Windows and Linux environments.
Basic knowledge of client/server services and working within Linux and Microsoft environments.
Some knowledge of security methods to assist in identifying, isolating, and escalating potential security issues with guidance from senior team members.
Some knowledge of security products and application management, with opportunities to assist in deployment and configuration at the enterprise level.
Some understanding of threats and vulnerabilities, with the ability to assist in basic threat identification.
Some exposure to code/script writing, with the ability to assist in creating simple scripts or automations.
Some understanding of directory systems, such as LDAP and Active Directory, with the ability to assist in access management tasks.
Some exposure to security tools, such as SIEM , vulnerability management, malware sandboxes, and endpoint detection, with supervision from senior team members.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey security findings and assist in drafting reports under supervision.
Effective organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, respond to incidents, and maintain composure under pressure, with close supervision from senior staff.
Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned tasks while maintaining time management and meeting deadlines under supervision.
Ability to interact with university stakeholders across multiple disciplines to assist in security operations and support security monitoring activities.

Basic knowledge of security frameworks and standards, such as ISO 27001, NIST , and CIS , with the ability to assist in aligning security practices to these standards under supervision. - Some exposure to cloud computing technologies, including software, infrastructure, and platform-as-a-service, as well as public, private, and hybrid cloud environments. - Some familiarity with DevOps principles and tools, with the ability to assist in basic tasks related to security integration within DevOps processes. - Some understanding of state privacy laws, with the ability to assist in ensuring compliance with guidance from more senior team members.
Conditions of Employment
Hourly (wage) employees are restricted to working 29 hours per week on average or 1500 hours in total in the May 1 - April 30 period. This position does not have health insurance, retirement or leave.
The equipment provided to staff with approved telework agreements enables them to deliver vital services to University faculty, staff, and students from remote locations. Many of our operations can and should continue as usual, even when the main physical campus is closed. Therefore, all DTT employees with an approved telework agreement are generally expected to work during official University closures
