We are looking for an experienced Associate General Counsel to join a growing legal team in Garden City, New York. Our mid-sized law firm spans several states and specializes in real estate and default servicing, with expertise in foreclosure, litigation, bankruptcy, evictions, and transactions / REO. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in monitoring legal and regulatory developments within this space, ensuring compliance, and drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts. This position is ideal for a meticulous legal expert with a strong business acumen who is eager to contribute to a dynamic and forward-thinking organization. This is a HYBRID role that offers comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities:

Stay informed about legal and regulatory changes that impact the organization's industry and operations.

Provide weekly updates on relevant legal changes to clients and internal stakeholders.

Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts to ensure alignment with legal and business objectives.

Assess compliance with applicable laws and regulations across various business areas.

Collaborate with internal teams to address legal matters, ensuring risk mitigation and adherence to industry standards.

Assist in the management of case files and legal documentation using case management and document management software.

Handle consumer complaints and claims, ensuring timely resolution and adherence to legal requirements.

Conduct legal briefings and provide guidance on civil litigation matters as needed.

Support the legal team in claim administration processes and other related activities.

Requirements

3+ years of legal experience

Must have active bar license (NY preferred)

Sound understanding and knowledge of real estate litigation. Preference will be given to candidates who have a default services background.

Excellent negotiating and drafting skills.

Ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks in terms that non-legal colleagues can understand.
