Medical Assistant - Daytona Beach, FL
Job Description
This role involves promoting and practicing the mission, vision, guiding principles, and values of the organization while following established policies and procedures. The Medical Assistant will greet and room patients into appropriate exam rooms, perform patient triage including vital signs assessment, and ensure all necessary documentation is complete for provider visits.
Responsibilities
Perform patient triage including assessment of vital signs and measurement of anthropometric measures.
Review patient charts to ensure all necessary documentation is present, current, and complete.
Obtain chief complaint and pertinent information regarding patient visit and required patient history.
Prepare charts with all diagnostic documentation needed for patient care.
Prepare patients for physical examinations and/or procedures and assist the provider accordingly.
Explain medical procedures to patients.
Communicate information obtained through telephone encounters to nurse and medical provider for management.
Conduct tests and procedures such as EKGs, urine dipsticks, and glucometer checks.
Draw blood and obtain other specimens, processing them as required.
Perform rapid tests for pregnancy, UTIs, and STIs.
Collect oropharyngeal and nasal swabs for Influenza, Streptococcus, and SARS.
Assist provider with minor surgical procedures such as wound care and suture/staple removal.
Disinfect exam room surfaces and medical equipment, per policy.
Maintain temperature logs for all clinic refrigerators containing specimens.
Monitor patient flow after check-in and collaborate with clinic team members to coordinate patient care and services.
Practice safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
Document all patient information and results accurately in the patient's chart in a timely manner.
Prepare and distribute reports within the clinic and to the healthcare team as necessary.
Prepare records/documents in response to requests from other healthcare providers.
Request diagnostic test results from outside laboratories or other healthcare providers.
Provide assistance with referrals and coordinate services with other organizations, federal, and local programs.
Perform required medical procedures associated with research projects and maintain complete and accurate documentation.
Manage clinical supplies inventory and coordinate orders for re-stocking.
Assist with referrals and coordinate services with other healthcare facilities, organizations, and programs.
Maintain required equipment and supply logs.
Follow health and safety protocols and procedures as part of infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, Stericycle, and Confidentiality policies.
Serve and protect the organization by adhering to professional standards, institutional policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements.
Participate and strive to achieve assigned Annual Performance Objectives.
Continuously demonstrate clinical competency with medical assistant skills and safety procedures.
Wear name badge with credentials visible to patients.
Adhere to ethical and legal standards of practice.
Essential Skills
Medical assisting skills.
Phlebotomy expertise.
Experience with electronic health records.
Skill in patient triage in person, on the phone, or via telehealth.
Ability to transmit information to the nursing/clinical team.
Skill in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
Skill in specimen collection and processing, including venipuncture, phlebotomy, and finger sticks.
Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, and prioritizing care.
Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with front desk and Health Information Management duties.
Ability to perform general front office and administrative duties.
Proficiency with general office/clinic equipment (copier, fax, telephone, scanners).
Skill in verifying patient's medical insurances.
Experience in collaborating with partner agencies.
Skill in patient scheduling.
Experience in billing and coding of services.
Work Environment
This position requires the use of standard clinical equipment and supplies including medical devices such as vital signs monitors, pulse oximeters, glucose monitors, in-clinic testing analyzers, centrifuges, and others. May involve use of patient assistive devices such as walkers or wheelchairs. Also requires the use of a computer and other standard office equipment such as telephones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
