Role Overview
As an Area Manager - Construction Procurement , you will lead and manage a complex national account program serving federal agencies across multiple installations. This is a critical role combining operational discipline with a deep customer focus to drive client satisfaction, program success, and strategic growth.
You will oversee daily operations, ensure contract compliance, strengthen client relationships at senior levels, and partner with internal teams to expand the program footprint through renewals, upsells, and best-in-class service delivery.
This position requires a proactive leader who can balance strategic planning with hands-on execution, coach high-performing teams, and identify opportunities to maximize account value.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Project Oversight
Oversee end-to-end project support, including scope development, material take-offs, proposal reviews, and construction management.
Manage program milestones, usage benchmarks, and performance KPIs
Coordinate all phases of new installation start-ups, ensuring smooth onboarding and high-quality deliverables.
Client & Account Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with client senior leadership (Director level and above).
Conduct quarterly performance reviews, deliver program updates, and address client concerns proactively.
Ensure service excellence, contract compliance, timely renewals, and identification of upsell/cross-sell opportunities.
Support contractor outreach and client participation through JOC 101 presentations and educational materials.
Operational Leadership
Develop annual budgets and provide accurate forecasting, pipeline tracking, and variance analysis.
Collaborate with Marketing, Product, and Sales on case studies, customer testimonials, and Voice of Customer initiatives.
Oversee Gordian Cloud migrations, ensuring adherence to best practices and timely progress reporting.
Use FBS tools to monitor operational KPIs and drive continuous improvement.
Team Leadership & Development
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Account Managers and support staff.
Set clear goals and performance expectations; conduct regular performance and development reviews.
Foster a collaborative, high-accountability culture aligned with Gordian's standards of excellence.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
Industry Experience: Minimum of 7 years' experience in the construction, facilities, or design industry, with a strong understanding of project delivery and procurement processes (knowledge of JOC is a plus).
Military Background: Prior military service or veteran status is preferred.
Account Management & Customer Success: Proven experience managing strategic accounts and driving customer satisfaction, retention, and growth.
Team Leadership: Demonstrated success leading teams of three or more, including experience managing remote or geographically dispersed staff.
Operational Excellence: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple contracts, projects, and priorities independently.
Problem Solving & Escalation: Skilled at identifying client or staffing issues, developing effective solutions, and knowing when to escalate.
Project & Contract Knowledge: Familiarity with construction bid documents, scopes of work, and new client start-up process.
Collaboration & Communication: Confident communicator with a consultative mindset; able to work collaboratively with internal teams and build trusted relationships at all levels.
Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Solid decision-making and analytical skills; able to interpret data to drive performance and program improvements.
Travel: Must hold a valid US driver's license and be willing and able to travel within assigned territory up to 30% of the time.
