Job Announcement
The McLean Community Center (MCC), a special agency of Fairfax County Government, was built and is funded by residents of Greater McLean, Virginia for their use through a real estate tax surcharge. An 11-member Governing Board, elected by citizens of the district and appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, oversees MCC's budget and operation.
MCC offers activities for adults, teens and children, including a wide range of classes, camps, art exhibits, theater performances and special events. The center also sponsors important community activities such as McLean Day at Lewinsville Park in May and Independence Day Fireworks at Langley High School. MCC's facilities include the Robert Ames Alden Theatre (The Alden) and the Old Firehouse Center. Through a public-private partnership, the McLean Project for the Arts is housed at the center and provides its visual arts programming.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing and Communications oversees the McLean Community Center's Public Information Office. Develops marketing and communication plans to tell MCC's story and increase brand recognition. Develops and executes marketing and communication campaigns for all MCC-sponsored classes, special events, activities and performances to include MCC divisions, the Alden Theatre and Old Firehouse Center. Develop campaigns using a variety of channels and deliverables. Develop promotional campaigns to focus on accessibility, and equitable access to engage in a diverse community and support the County's One Fairfax initiative. Acts as agency's spokesperson and responds to media inquiries. Manages and implements the annual marketing and advertising budget for the MCC.
Duties Include:
Envisions, develops, directs and implements the strategic marketing and promotion of MCC and MCC-sponsored programs through the skillful use of public information, media relations and community outreach.
Identifies marketing strategies and designs marketing campaigns for MCC agency divisions (Performing Arts, Special Events, Instruction, Old Firehouse Center) in collaboration with the Executive Director, Governing Board and program staff.
Oversee the development of communication and marketing tools and products, including the design, production and delivery of printed and digital promotional materials.
Evaluates marketing initiatives for impact and effectiveness; analyzes statistics and recommends changes and innovations.
Maintains Public Information Office archives and media, community and stakeholder contacts.
Cultivates, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with media representatives to encourage continuous coverage of MCC-sponsored activities.
Responds to media inquiries and coordinates interactions between media representatives, communications professionals and appropriate MCC staff.
Develops, writes and/or edits copy and designs concepts for various marketing materials, including MCC publications, social media, website, news releases, calendars, public service announcements, advertisements, programs and displays.
Creates original work, reviews and approves staff and contractors' work, and approves design formats.
Supervises and evaluates the Graphic Artist, Social Media Manager and Administrative Assistant positions.
Oversees vendors provide contractual services and monitor their performance and adherence to contract terms.
Schedule: To accommodate meetings and events, occasional evening, weekend and holiday work will be required.

Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, public administration, political science, or field related to a department's business, plus five years of progressively responsible experience in communication area of specialization or area of specialization of department represented.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or another related field.
Experience includes knowledge of AP Style, copyediting and print publications, knowledge of content management systems, HTML coding and digital graphics production.
Knowledge of social media platforms and social media marketing.
Knowledge of website content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal, and graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
Understanding effective outreach methods to reach diverse audiences.
Strong written communication skills, with the ability to adapt writing styles for various audiences and platforms.
Ability to communicate verbally to staff, public and present at Governing Board meetings.
Ability to communicate effectively during and after crisis and/or emergency.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to attend events and give presentations.
Ability to lift up to 10 pounds to distribute marketing materials and programs guides.
Work requires ability to operate keyboard driven equipment.
