Job Title: Strain Improvement Lab TechnicianJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated Strain Improvement Lab Technician to join our team and support scientists in executing project tasks while ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory workflows. This role requires preparation of microbial growth media, equipment sterilization, high-throughput growth, sample harvesting, and coordination with other departments for efficient material transfers and processing. The ideal candidate will identify areas for improvement, actively seek opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, and manage tasks and team activities proactively.

Responsibilities

Support a team of scientists in executing project tasks and ensuring smooth laboratory operations.

Prepare microbial growth media and sterilize equipment.

Conduct high-throughput growth and sample harvesting.

Coordinate with other departments for efficient material transfers and processing.

Identify areas for improvement and seek opportunities to increase operational efficiency.

Assess the performance of new microbial strains through screenings at different scales, if exceptional.

Assist in preparing and presenting results and scientific findings to project teams, stakeholders, and management, if exceptional.

Essential Skills

Proficient in aseptic technique and preparation of microbial growth media.

BS degree in Biology/Microbiology with experience in microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, microbial culturing, fermentation, or a related field.

Experience with microbial cell growth and sample processing in small-scale cultivation systems.

Knowledge in laboratory maintenance and use of sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves.

Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask with attention to detail.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to work as a proactive and inquisitive team player.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with classical strain improvement and adaptive laboratory evolution is a plus.

Familiarity with automated liquid handling systems is advantageous.

Competence in data analysis using software programs like Spotfire, Power BI, or JMP.

Work Environment

The position is located in a laboratory focused on nutritional products, supporting the development and refinement of new nutritional products for human use. The environment is intellectually engaging, with staff committed to contributing to the professional development of consultants.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
