Job Summary:
This position is accountable for all aspects of operations and maintenance at Deer Park with the emphasis on work safety, environmental compliance, quality, productivity, and employee leadership.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Ensure safe operation and environmental compliance of power plant equipment
Ensure reliability-based maintenance planning process is effective
Serves as safety management sponsor
Ensure operational aspects of work management process are effective
Approve monthly operations and maintenance schedules
Works with the Plant Specialist to ensure environmental compliance
Prepare and manage Operational and Maintenance budgets
Compiles and submits budget variance reports and invoicing to owners on behalf of NRG
Support continual improvement and operational excellence through the following programs:
Safety Programs
Environmental Compliance
Conduct of Operations
Alarm Management
Root Cause Analysis
Reliability Centered Maintenance
Cycle Chemistry Monitoring and Improvement
Lock-out tag-out
Change Analysis
Inventory Optimization
Operator Driven Reliability
Supports/Oversees Outages to ensure they are safe, productive, and cost effective
Ensuring the PDM program meets operation and maintenance needs of the plant
Operator Training and Skills Enhancement Programs
Provides visible and active support for the plant reliability program
Maintaining current written procedures to improve plant performance and to ensure consistent operation between crews
Developing appropriate shifts, schedules, staffing, and response programs to control costs and enhance response time and performance
Creates and maintains plant reports (Performance reports, GADS, ORAP, etc.)
Weekly Operations & Maintenance Reports to Plant Manager
Supports all Seasonal Readiness Activities and is the Hurricane Duty Coordinator
Monitor progress of plant goals
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment and/or power plant environment
Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required
Frequently requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, gloves, ear plugs, respirators, etc.)
May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
Emergency situations will require the use of a respirator and climbing of stairs to reach safety shelters.
Requires operation of a motor vehicle
Requires excelled operation of a personal computer
Limited business-related travel to NRG and vendor facilities.
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma and a minimum of 8 years of experience with operations/maintenance at a power plant OR Baccalaureate degree in an Engineering, Business, or related discipline from an accredited college or university, and 5 years maintenance/operations experience in a power plant.
Must possess or secure a TWIC card prior to the date of hire.
Ability to work effectively in-plant environments and field locations.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
This position requires extended work hours to support the plant as required. The incumbent is required is required to be available on a 24/7 emergency basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Co-generation plant experience is preferred
GE 7EA combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generator (HRSG)
Water treatment experience (demineralization, wastewater, etc.)
Experience with breakers, exciters, generators, transformers, motors, switchgear, and miscellaneous electrical equipment
Experience in both Operations and Maintenance.
Experience leading/supervising employees in a related field is desirable
The candidate should have a wide range of skills and experience, sufficient to teach workers at all levels of the organization
Additional Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong leadership ability, writing, planning, communication skills, a strong working knowledge of Company policies and procedures, along with an understanding of union labor agreements, are required.
Proven skills relating to computer applications such as Excel, Pi, SAP, project scheduling, budgeting, safety and industrial hygiene, and an understanding of power plant operations are essential.
Uses and maintains technical and professional knowledge, shares that knowledge with others, and recognizes/applies new technology in a cost-effective manner
Seeks and understands the customer/client's needs and focuses on meeting and exceeding their expectations
The successful candidate will have experience in operations and maintenance, with demonstrated experience in operational excellence.
Physical Requirements:
Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment
Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
