Job Title: Principal Electrical EngineerJob Description

The Principal Electrical Engineer leads and manages hardware aspects of products throughout their entire lifecycle, from architecture and planning to design, verification, and validation. This role provides electrical-design technical leadership for teams in cross-functional new product development and sustaining engineering projects. Hardware design development is focused on products based on various sensing technologies, such as Optical and Electrochemical, as well as communication technologies, both wired and wireless.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and integration of electronics and peripherals, including FPGA, components, and PCB.

Develop power and analog circuit designs essential for sensing technologies.

Design for manufacturing and testing, with expertise in sensor technologies.

Provide leadership and mentoring, being hands-on throughout the testing process from requirements to production.

Define and qualify requirements, ensuring alignment with regulated backgrounds in industrial, medical, or defense sectors.

Utilize Altium for schematic and board layout, with openness to other CAD experiences.

Engage in FPGA design and testing, preferably using Altera toolset.

Write and manage requirements and test cases, utilizing Jira as a tool.

Essential Skills

Strong electrical engineering and design skills.

Proficiency in schematic design and hardware electronics.

Experience in PCB design and electronics testing.

Ability to design systems requirements and qualifications.

Hands-on experience with microcontroller design.

Expertise in power distribution and hardware design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

FPGA development experience using Verilog and Altera toolset.

Experience designing circuits for embedded systems with mixed signal, communication, and power conversion/distribution technologies.

Collaboration skills with Systems Engineers for new product architecture design.

Ability to partition system architecture into sub-systems and write sub-system requirements.

Experience in regulated industries, accustomed to rigorous design processes.

Work Environment

The role is situated in a high technology leadership environment, requiring some travel within Twin Cities for offsite testing facilities. The position involves hands-on work and technical leadership, serving as a mentor rather than a manager. The work environment is engineering-focused, utilizing tools like Altium for CAD and Jira for managing requirements and test cases.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
